Areas of Practice
White Collar Criminal Investigations & Defense
L&A vigorously defends individuals, non-profit institutions, government officials, and corporations at all stages of criminal and regulatory investigations, in federal and state courts across the country. Led by Abbe David Lowell, who has decades of experience handling high-profile white-collar investigations and prosecutions, our lawyers have successfully defended clients at the investigatory stage, at trial, and on appeal—often under the glare of media scrutiny.
Our firm has extensive experience handling sensitive, complex cross-border matters, including the representation of foreign nationals facing U.S. criminal investigations and prosecutions as well as SEC enforcement actions, and in some cases, parallel foreign proceedings.
Practice areas include various financial fraud allegations (securities, tax, bankruptcy, bank), conspiracy charges, public corruption and election laws, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, obstruction and false statements, money laundering and trade sanctions, and the Foreign Agents Registration and Espionage Acts.
We leverage our insiders’ view to develop individualized strategies for navigating our clients’ responses to government subpoenas and investigative demands; prepare witnesses and represent them in proffers, interviews, and depositions; advise on grand jury matters; and advocate before federal and state government prosecutors. In every situation, our primary goal is to protect and defend our clients’ interests and help resolve matters as efficiently, expeditiously, and discreetly as possible, without the need for an enforcement action or criminal charge. However, that disposition cannot be achieved in every case, and when enforcement actions or criminal charges are brought, L&A provides steadfast counsel and a zealous defense. We are never fearful of taking our clients to trial to achieve success.
Regulatory Enforcement & Compliance
L&A has significant experience representing individuals, businesses, and institutions in connection with government administrative and regulatory investigations and enforcement actions by federal, state and local agencies. We have helped clients respond to administrative summonses and subpoenas, interviews, depositions, hearings and agency trials.
The matters in which we have provided advice and work include: antitrust and unfair trade practices, financial institution regulation, immigration procedures, civil rights regulations, election law and regulations, ethics in government and financial disclosure laws and regulations, anti-money laundering and trade sanctions, the Foreign Agents Registration Act, the Lobbying Disclosure Act, the Administrative Procedure Act, the Freedom of Information Act, the Privacy Act, and state attorney general and state regulatory actions.
Business Disputes & Complex Civil Litigation
Our attorneys are accomplished commercial litigators with extensive experience in an array of civil matters and have achieved victory for clients in myriad business litigations and disputes, including taking cases to successful verdicts at trial. With decades of combined legal experience, our lawyers have successfully represented clients in all manner of commercial disputes in federal and state courts and in alternative dispute settings, including bankruptcy litigation and mandatory arbitration and mediation. We have successfully litigated or resolved favorably a wide variety of hard-fought commercial matters: large-scale and multi-jurisdictional litigation, including class actions; employment contract disputes; defamation; invasion of privacy; complex torts; breach of contract matters; derivative and shareholder litigation; and deceptive trade practice cases.
We have obtained dozens of pre-trial dismissals at the motions and summary judgment stages and are known for our creative approaches to dispute resolution and settlement. But we are also accomplished and tenacious courtroom advocates who are not afraid to take cases to trial. We have handled numerous hearings, arguments, and trials in both federal and state trial courts across the country and regularly handle complicated matters before the U.S. Courts of Appeals.
In every litigation no matter the size, we are rigorously focused on achieving our clients’ objectives with the utmost efficiency, so that their business can continue to thrive.

Congressional Investigations
Public Interest Litigation & Advocacy
Core to L&A’s mission is public interest representation that defends the integrity of the legal system and protects individuals and institutions from government overreach and threats to fundamental rights. L&A leverages our team’s extensive litigation experience to develop creative legal strategies to aggressively defend the rule of law, utilizing both offensive and defensive litigation. We represent clients from all sides of the political spectrum, including current and former government officials, whistleblowers, non-profit organizations, and others facing the real-life effects of government overreach and corruption.
This representation often involves bringing or defending lawsuits in courts against government agencies, advocacy before federal and state agencies, and efforts against congressional overreach.
